Mania
Clonidine
[Kapvay] Approved for ADHD, but also helps mania, nicotine/opioid, anxiety, irritability, self-harm, autism, negative symptoms schizophrenia, tics
Nimodipine
[CA CHANNEL BLOCKER] for mania [3], rapid cycling bipolar, and tremor, (may help bp-anxiety).
Carbamazepine
[Equetro] A well tolerated option for bipolar mania and mixed states (but you’ll need to adjust for drug interactions)
Valproate
[Depakote] Good for bipolar mania/mixed and comorbid anxiety/alcoholism, but poorly tolerated and unsafe in pregnancy.
Levetiracetam
[Keppra] For mania [3] and tardive dyskinesia [2]. Although a seizure med, it improves cognition.
Lithium
Best long-term outcomes in bipolar (I or II) and recurrent depression. Prevents suicide. Treats mania, bp-depression and augments antidepressants.
