Benzodiazepines
Lorazepam is best overall. Oxazepam safest. Clonazepam, alprazolam approved in panic. Alprazolam short-term helps depression. Akathisia, alcohol WD.
Panic
Imipramine
[Tofranil] Ideal tricyclic for anxiety disorders, but sedating and anticholinergic effects.
Venlafaxine
[Effexor] Not ideal among the SNRIs (hypertension, WD risks, weight gain), but very effective for some and treats hot flashes in low doses.
Duloxetine
[Cymbalta] Approved for child anxiety. Risk of urine retention (but treats urine incont). Liver
risk.
Tranylcypromine
[Parnate] Ideal MAOI for tolerability, with low weight/sedation problems. May treat panic.
Selegiline
[$ EMSAM] Skin patch MAOI, good to start with (low dose = no food interactions) but not as potent as older MAOIs.
Inositol
For bipolar depression (synergistic with omega-3) [3], bulimia [2], psoriasis on lithium [1]. Studied in children.
