Aripiprazole
[Abilify] Among the better-tolerated antipsychotics, and best-studied for antidepressant
augmentation [1] (but doesn't treat bp-depression). Schizophrenia [1]
Clozapine
[Clozaril] Use in schizophrenia/schizoaffective after 2 failed antipsychotic trials. Prevents suicide
in psychotic disorders.
Risperidone
[Risperdal] Among most effective antipsychotics for schizophrenia [1]. Mania[3]. Augments
antidepressants in unipolar [3], PTSD [3], OCD [3].
Asenapine
[Saphris] A good antipsychotic when others aren't tolerated. Treats bipolar mania/mixed [2] and
possibly bp-depression [4].
Cariprazine
[$ Vraylar] Top for schizophrenia [1] because it improves negative symptoms. Bipolar depression [2] + mania [1], unipolar augmentation [2], but low effect size in depressions.
Ziprasidone
[Geodon] Among best antipsychotics for low weight/diabetes risk. Treats mania/mixed; possibly
helps depression in unipolar and bipolar.
Olanzapine
[Zyprexa] High efficacy in schizophrenia [2], so use before moving to clozapine. Mania [2], augmentation in unipolar [3], PTSD [3].
