Dosing
Start 10 mg/day for 1 wk, 20 mg/day, target 20-40 mg/day. Take with a full meal.
Absorption drops 50% if taken on an empty stomach
INTERACTIONS: Metabolized through CYP3A4. Raise by 3-5x if using with carbamazepine.
Management
Vilazodone’s only benefit is lack of sexual side effects. Otherwise, not evidence in anxiety disorders and not a stand-out antidepressant.
TOLERABILITY: diarrhea, nausea, sleep disruption.
